The two entities of BayWa r.e. Group, BayWa r.e. Clean Energy s.r.l. in Italy and BayWa r.e. Clean Energy Sourcing in Germany, were able to increase the volumes they marketed for 2021 from 4,000 MW to over 7,100 MW through an impressive sales success.
Since the contracts for the marketing of wind, solar and biogas plants usually run on a calendar year basis, the sales focus of energy trading is on the months of September to November. In the German market, this period is also known as the "hunting season". This year, German energy trading concluded the season with particular success, achieving an increase in the direct marketing portfolio from 3,500 MW to 6,300 MW (of which 5,400 MW wind onshore and offshore, 550 MW PV and 350 MW biogas).
In addition to the success in direct marketing, the first 280 MW of wind turbines were contracted this year, which will no longer receive state subsidies from 2021. In the future, these will be marketed under power purchase agreements (PPA).
Equivalent great result has been reached in Italy. The Italian team will manage a portfolio of about 560 MW from 2021, of which 222 MW wind, 330 MW PV and 10 MW hydropower) showing a significant market growth since the start of operation 2 years ago.
With these successes, BayWa r.e. has been able to strengthen its position as a marketer of electricity from renewable energies in both markets.
