Lecture at Sapienza University of Rome

to overview

Wednesday 31 October, BayWa r.e. Operation Services s.r.l. was invited to hold a lecture for undergraduate students following the course 'Diagnostica dei Sistemi Energetici', specialist course at the Faculty of energy Engineering.

The session took place at the Faculty of Engineering of the Sapienza University of Rome, located just a few steps away from one of the city’s most impressive landmarks, the Colosseum. Sapienza University is the largest university in Europe and one of the oldest in the world (founded in 1303).

During the presentation, titled “State-of-the-art monitoring techniques for the diagnosis of PV systems”, Paolo Di Ciaccio (Head of Operations at BayWa r.e. Operation Services s.r.l) and Guillermo Oviedo (researcher at BayWa r.e. Operation Services s.r.l.), explained to the future engineers the importance of monitoring systems for O&M activities, as well as trends and latest developments of the technology.

Around 20 students attended this lesson, showing a lot of interest and asking several questions.

In October 2017, BayWa r.e. and Sapienza University started a closer collaboration within the framework of the SOLAR-TRAIN project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, whose main objective is the improvement of photovoltaic plant performance, task in which Guillermo is fully engaged as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie scholarship holder. Guillermo is also enrolled in Sapienza’s PhD programme ‘Energy and Environment’ and is developing applied research on predictive maintenance methodologies.

Following the successful result of this experience, Sapienza invited BayWa r.e. to hold a series of seminars on our activities, that will be held before Christmas.

Through this continuous and fruitful relationship with the academic world, many young students are given the chance to have a closer look at our activities, either through lectures, field trips, internships and Master thesis projects.
